EDC – Tech Space NOW OPEN!

The Pharr Economic Development Corporation in late 2014 set out on a mission to create an opportunity to attract technology based companies to Pharr, Texas. Utilizing existing space that the City of Pharr already owned, the Pharr Economic Development Corporation worked with the Pharr Innovation & Technology department to create a fresh and innovative space for tech and science businesses to come and grow.

The City of Pharr refreshed close to 7,500 square feet of office space; equipped it with the state of the art internet and audio visual systems and immediately received interest from various valley and regionally based technology firms.

On January 8, 2015, Create the Bridge, Inc. opened its doors as the first member of the incubator program and also the first tenant to occupy approximately 2,400 square feet of the Pharr Innovation Labs facility.

imagesCreate the Bridge is a product development company with  clients hailing from the European Union, Asia, the United Arab Emirates, and all across the United States. They’ve been able to succeed internationally due to the progressive technologies they use such as Ruby on Rails and Node.js which are perfectly married with beautiful design and great user experiences.

Create the Bridge has helped to raise technology awareness and encourage exploration of science and technology with their community outreach. They’ve reached hundreds of students through the CodeFactory events which were in partnership with UTPA Continuing Education. They plan to host similar events, and expand to host technology conferences in the city of Pharr.

“We have had a great experience with working with the Pharr Economic Development Corporation and its elected officials. It was refreshing to find such progressive parties to help support our vision and aid in the development of our company and products”. Said Nathan Villarreal, Create the Bridge’s co-founder and chief operating officer.

CS-AFTER-PHARR254In recognizing the importance of science and technology for students, the Pharr Economic Development corporation hosted its 2nd Annual For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Launch for the 2015 competition year. This event was hosted at the Boggus Ford Event Center in Pharr, Texas and was attended by students from all over the Rio Grande Valley. This event included a live, world-wide broadcast by NASA-TV which outlined this years competition guidelines. FIRST has several robotics programs available to various age groups.

Limited space is still available for other tech savvy companies to join the Pharr Innovation Labs facility. For more information please contact the Pharr Economic Development Corporation at 956.402.4332.
