TRU Attends Exercise in Cameron County
The Innovation & Technology Department’s Technical Response Unit (TRU) was part of a full scale exercise today at the Harlingen, Texas Airport (HRL). The TRU was requested by the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF 11) to assist with radio communications, and aerial video/photo capturing during the event.
The purpose of todays exercise was to simulate the emergency response to a airplane disaster at the Harlingen Airport, package more than 100 patients, and transport them to area hospitals for treatment.
FEDEX (pictured) provided a cargo plane as part of the exercise, and area ambulance / fire services participated.
I am proud to have been called to participate in the exercise stated Jason Arms, Pharrs Innovation & Technology Director. This clearly shows our community and the region that we are committed in bettering the life here in the Rio Grande Valley, Arms added.
These exercises occur several times a year at various airports. The TRU was requested to participate in a table top exercise at the McAllen, Texas airport which included various agencies from Hidalgo County, Texas.
